Kelly Reilly recently revealed that working on Yellowstone is still ‘fascinating’ after five years.
The 46-year-old actress also talked about how she doesn’t always agree with the unexpected developments and still gets surprised by her character’s shocking storylines.
According to an interview by Insider published on Saturday, she said that even though she has portrayed the same character for five years now, she is ‘still learning’ about her.
The Pride & Prejudice star also added that the showrunner and co-creator of the hit Paramount Network series, Taylor Sheridan, does not share details ahead of time and often astonishes her.
The Biz alum — whose real accent bares little resemblance to the strong American twang she uses in the show to portray Beth — said: ‘I’m coming to it almost the same as the audience.’
In a featurette clip that appears on the Blu-ray and DVD release of the first part of Yellowstone’s fifth season, Reilly also revealed: ‘I mean, I have my hopes and thoughts for the character.’
Despite her many years working on the drama since its inception in 2018, she professed she still gets surprised by Beth’s character arc and many jaw-dropping turn of events season after season.
‘Also, as I’ve played her for over five years now, I feel like I know her so well, but I’m still learning,’ she continued.
Reilly also added that Sheridan and his method made the process of working on the show ‘fascinating’.
‘There are still things that I read and I didn’t expect, or sometimes I wish for something else for her, but that’s the same as the audience,’ she explained.
‘We’re all sort of beholden to the vision of the storyteller and we serve the story,’ she continued. ‘Who knows what’s going to happen? I find that exciting as an actor.’
In Yellowstone, Reilly plays Beth Dutton — who is the daughter of John Dutton, a sixth-generation rancher and now governor of Montana played by Kevin Costner.
A majority of Beth’s character arc over the course of the first four seasons follows her tumultuous romantic relationship with Cole Hauser’s character, Rip Wheeler — who is Beth’s father’s violent right-hand man.
Following a drama-packed midseason cliffhanger, the second part of Yellowstone’s fifth season were scheduled to return in the upcoming fall.
However, the original release date set for November 2023 might be ‘highly unlikely’, The Hollywood Reporter reported in June, due to the ongoing writer’s strike.
With a silver lining, Sheridan — who has dutifully stopped writing to support the efforts — did suggest that he might end up making more than the previously reported six final episodes.
‘If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me 10,’ he told the publication. ‘It’ll be as long as it needs to be.’
