Kevin Costner has decided to part ways from the much-loved series, Yellowstone. After a long time, not only will the series be going on without the actor, but it will also be ending after the fifth season. There had been a lot of speculation regarding his departure but the actual reason for him leaving the series was not one fans had expected at all.

Costner has been a loved actor for the majority of his career and while he has done various movies and television shows, he is best known for his role in Yellowstone. However, his sudden departure from the series has stirred up a fair share of rumors, including as to why the actor was not very giddy on set and the exact opposite of that when he was leaving.

Kevin Costner Was Not Happy With His Character

Kevin Costner will be finally departing from Yellowstone after having played the protagonist of the series since 2018. Although initially, it was rather unclear as to why the actor was keen on leaving the show, one rumor stood out more than others.

“There was a time in season two when he was very upset and said the character wasn’t going in the direction he wanted.”

Kevin Costner allegedly was highly unhappy with his character and the direction he was going in. Taylor S heridan had supposedly told him to deal with it. However, he later denied ever having said that. Sheridan later also added that Costner had expressed his dismay about the character way back in season two. He wanted something else for his character but decided to go with whatever was decided early on. Although, after a while, he decided that the character would be better off in a different direction. Due to not getting that, Costner allegedly decided to leave the series.

Kevin Costner Wanted Less Time In Front Of The Camera

For the past couple of seasons, Kevin Costner had been pushing the idea of having him in the show with much lesser frequency. He was not happy with his character and wanted to avoid any possible way that would lead him to play him for longer.

“My last conversation with Kevin was that he had this passion project he wanted to direct. He and the network were arguing about when he could be done with Yellowstone. I said, ‘We can certainly work a schedule toward [his preferred exit date],’ which we did.”

Costner even talked to Taylor Sheridan about wanting to focus on other projects which he termed as his passion projects. He wanted to lean more towards directing those projects rather than working on Yellowstone. Costner even went on to ask about how it would be convenient for him to part ways from the show.
