There is new information from Paramount that Yellowstone fans may not like. The prequel 1923 starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren will likely not air in 2023.

Here is the latest information.

1923 Is Delayed Indefinitely

The latest news about the Yellowstone prequel 1923 is disheartening. The series, which was supposed to start filming on June 5, is currently at a standstill. According to Deadline, this is because of the WGA writer’s strike. This is without the anticipated SAG-AFTRA strike at the end of June.

Just recently, the news out of Butte, Montana, where they film 1923, is that there is an indefinite delay. Paramount had reserved the Butte-Silver Bow at $75,000 a month. Originally, this was planned until the end of the year.

However, since the WGA strike, they have extended this until 2024. That certainly indicates that they are prepared to film in 2024 if the strike is not resolved before then.

Add that Harrison Ford has a cornucopia of roles coming up. Firstly, he is starring in Captain America 4Thunderbolts, as well as Apple TV’s Shrinking. The 80-year-old actor could not be busier. Therefore, it may be interesting to see how manages this full schedule.

1923 Season 2 Is The Final Season

Originally, 1923 was called 1932. In addition, there was only going to be one season, just like the other Dutton spinoff prequel 1883. However, Sheridan decided he had more Dutton story to tell from this era. Therefore, he moved the timeline of the series up nine years. Next, he supersized the Paramount+ limited series into two seasons.

The good news is that Taylor Sheridan is so prolific. Also, he has more Dutton family stories to tell, and a network who is delighted with the success of Yellowstone

Recently, Sheridan was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter about his Dutton series. Although he has several in production, he also revealed there are many more prequels to come.

What Does This Mean About Other Yellowstone Series?

If the prequel 1923 has delayed filming, what about Yellowstone? The OG is in the same boat. Originally, the final six episodes of Season 5 were going to air in the summer of 2023. Then, there was a lot of Kevin Costner drama that Sheridan tamed down, blaming attorneys and other representatives for fueling the rumors of series unrest.

Now, the plan is to start filming in late summer or early fall. Moreover, that would mean that the final episodes would air at the end of the year. Unfortunately, this production could continue to be stalled for the same reasons as 1923.

The key is to get the WGA strike resolved and production started again. But, like a Sheridan tale, there are going to be some twists and turns before they start filming again. Most of all, fans will just have to continue to be patient.
