After recent reports of alleged drama between Kevin Costner and creator Taylor Sheridan, the actor has reportedly chosen not to reprise his role after season five.

As fans eagerly await Yellowstone’s midseason premiere, they have been subjected to speculation about the future of the Paramount Network western.

Without updates from the cast or crew, viewers have shared their frustration and confusion regarding the remaining season five episodes.

An alleged feud between John Dutton star Kevin Costner and creator Taylor Sheridan may have led to the actor’s departure from Yellowstone.

According to Entertainment Tonight, a source close to production revealed the Dutton family could return to screens without its patriarch.

As the publication stated: “Kevin Costner is not returning to Yellowstone after season five.”

Viewers have been anxiously awaiting season five, part two after it ended on a major cliffhanger in January.

Among the speculated disagreements, the Yellowstone cast confirmed production for the remaining episodes has not yet to begun and they have not been given a filming start date.

Josh Lucas, Wendy Moniz, Mo Brings Plenty, and Dawn Olivieri were the only stars to attend the panel at the PaleyFest.

With the main cast noticeably missing, Paramount President of Development and Production Keith Cox remained hopeful about Costner’s return.

After reports of the alleged disagreements on set, Costner’s attorney Marty Singer hit back and stated: “The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season five of Yellowstone is an absolute lie.

“It’s ridiculous and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second.

The lawyer added, “As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”

Elsewhere in the Yellowstone franchise, production is moving forward with a spin-off starring Matthew McConaughey.

Speaking on the new series, a spokesperson from Paramount Network told Express.co.uk: “Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built.

“Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”

A representative from Paramount+ declined to comment when approached by Express.co.uk.

Yellowstone seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Paramount Network in the USA.
