Kelsey Asbille Admits She Still Gets Starstruck Working With Kevin Costner On Yellowstone

Longtime fans of Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” will know that Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) has been put through the wringer ever since she first married Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). Thus far, her association with the Dutton clan — and by extension, the hotly-contested Yellowstone Ranch — has led to the murder of her brother and the abduction and torture of her son .

On top of the immense suffering that Monica has endured since joining the Dutton family, she is also reviled by patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) — whose hatred of Monica was so great that he ordered Kayce to get an abortion once she became pregnant with Tate. Kayce’s failure to do so caused John to brand him out of spite, further emphasizing his hostility towards Monica.

Likewise, Monica’s abhorrence of John Dutton and his lifestyle has led to her splitting with Kayce on numerous occasions, as she fears that John and his family will only bring danger to herself and her son. Although these two characters have an antagonistic relationship within the series itself, it seems as though their dynamic behind the scenes is quite the opposite — as Kelsey Asbille has gone on record to praise the kindness and leadership of Kevin Costner, and even admitted that she is still starstruck whenever she works alongside him.

Asbille says that Kevin Costner lives up to all of the hype

During an interview at the ACM Awards in March 2022, actor Kelsey Asbille explained that Kevin Costner is an absolute delight to work with, and admitted that she still gets a little starstruck even after working with him for five seasons .

“Oh man, he really lives up to the hype,” Asbille said. “He’s sweet, he’s a great leader … and you’re still kind of starstruck. It never gets old.” It’s no secret that Costner is by far the most prolific actor in the entire cast of “Yellowstone,” and Asbille’s comments make it clear that Costner’s past work has earned him a certain amount of respect and reverence from the rest of the cast.

Indeed, Costner’s previous work on iconic Westerns like “Silverado,” “Wyatt Earp,” and “Dances With Wolves” — the latter of which he also directed — has made the legendary actor a staple of the Western genre. Costner’s inclusion in the contemporary western “Yellowstone” undoubtedly gives the series an added layer of appeal. All things considered, it’s perfectly understandable that Asbille would still be a little starstruck, even after five seasons of working with Costner.
