As Yellowstone fans anticipate a second season of (one of) its prequel series, 1923, the show’s cast is tiding them over with some juicy behind-the-scenes tidbits. The latest comes from Helen Mirren, who plays matriarch Cara Dutton, wife of Jacob Dutton, played by Harrison Ford. In a recent panel discussion with The Wrap, the actress did not hold back when discussing filming bedroom scenes with Harrison Ford.
“I had to be in the bed with him, you know. I’m dressed up to here,” Mirren said, gesturing to her neck. “But I’m lying there and I’m thinking, ‘I’m in bed with Harrison Ford.’ I was so excited, I can’t tell you. I had to pretend to be cool. Don’t tell him. Promise me.”
Mirren also gave Ford, 80, general praise for his professionalism and success as an actor. “The stature he’s held, as a major, humongous movie star, all that time, at the same time as somebody who doesn’t love the limelight. He has this interior quality to him,” Mirren raved. “He’s come to a place where he can be easy with other actors. It’s immensely generous and incredibly professional. Not remotely a spoiled movie star, at all. I genuinely love him. If I wasn’t married …”
This isn’t the first time they’ve worked together. The two played husband and wife in the 1986 film The Mosquito Coast. “It was so great to come back and it was as if the 30 years just hadn’t existed and here we were together again as husband and wife,” Mirren said of their 1923 roles at Deadline’s recent Contenders Television panel. “I just can’t say too much about Harrison really, in the sense of my love for him because I think he’s just fantastic as a person.”
Both Mirren and Ford were thrilled to join the 1923 cast — so thrilled, in fact, that they signed up without ever reading a script. “For the first time in my life, I wasn’t given a script. I had no idea what it was going to be, and likewise for [Ford],” she shared during the Deadline panel. “[Creator] Taylor [Sheridan] likes to write for the people that he knows are going to play the role. That was a combination of flattering and at the same time sort of rather nerve-wracking because I’d actually never met Taylor Sheridan and maybe when he meets me, he won’t want to write for me.”

Thankfully, after spending an evening together, they decided to press forward, and the cast and fans were equally delighted with how the first season turned out. Mirren was so thrilled that she and Ford are already alluding to their return for season two.
