Tom Hanks is a well-reputed star who gained prominence with his comedic and dramatic roles. He has proven his craft to be of high quality and has worked with many famous filmmakers including internationally recognized director, Clint Eastwood. Despite the latter being an A-lister, the former found the latter’s behavior quite intimidating when the duo worked together in 2016.

Tom Hanks Was Intimidated by Clint Eastwood

He shared,

“He treats his actors like horses because when he did the 60s series Rawhide, the director would shout ‘Action!’ and all the horses bolted.”

He continued how he instructs everyone around him in a quiet soft voice.

So when he’s in charge, he says in a really quiet soft voice, ‘All right, go ahead,’ and instead of shouting ‘Cut!’ he says ‘That’s enough of that.’’”

The filmmaker’s quiet voice was the result of what he learned on the set of his 1960s series Rawhide. At that time, filmmakers used to love the attention by speaking on megaphones which often freak the horses. But he decided not to scare them which is now he developed a quiet demeanor. Despite it being a good thing, Hanks felt it was “intimidating as hell.”

Hanks starred as Sullenberger with the film being based on the true story of the 2009 Hudson River plane crash, which saw the pilot save 155 lives.

“Sully was very particular about how we portrayed the procedure and the emotions. He pulled out this dog-eared, stapled and notated script that he had read.”

Even his wife also helped him in the production process. The cast and crew were respecting his opinions and went through each one of his opinions on the script.

“Post-its, stapled index cards all over it – I’m sure his wife had even written ‘No’ across it in lipstick! We went through every page and every moment, every beat had been commented on. He had opinions.”

Each one of their efforts eventually paid off as the film received a good response from the film critics. Not just that, but the film was also commercially successful grossing over $241 million worldwide.
