1923 season 2 is happening
After a successful first season, 1923 was renewed for season 2 in the early part of 2023. It’s great to see 1923 season 2 in the works. There’s so much left to this story, and fans loved these new characters so much. They want to see more, and thankfully, that’s happening!
Unfortunately, it’s not all good news about 1923 season 2.
1923 season 2 filming
Well, the cast and crew of 1923 season 2 were supposed to begin filming in June 2023 in Montana, but that did not happen. According to Taste of Country, the WGA strike and the AMPTP not offering the writers a new contract is the reason for the delay.
Likely, production will not begin until after the strike is over. Because we don’t know when it’s going to end, it’s hard to predict when production will begin.
Has the 1923 season 2 release date been announced?
The 1923 season 2 release date has not been announced, and it likely will not be announced for quite a while. We know that production has not started yet. It’s possible that the scripts are done, and everything is ready to go, and the cast and crew don’t want to cross picket lines to start filming.
It should be a pretty quick filming process. The first season started filming in August 2022, and then, the season premiered in December 2022. That’s fast!
Assuming that happens for 1923 season 2, there’s a good chance that we’ll see the new season sometime in late 2023 or early 2024. It just depends on went the strike ends and when they can get rolling on the new season.
We know that Yellowstone season 5 part 2 goes into production later this summer. We doubt that they will film both at the same time, even if the strike is over by then.
For now, it looks like a 2024 release date is the safer pick.

How many episodes are in 1923 season 2?
Like the first season of 1923, there will be eight episodes in the new season. It’s unclear if the episodes will be split into two batches like the first season, but it’s definitely possible with 1923 season 2. It helps with filming and post-production when they do that. It’s more of the broadcast TV model, rather than the streaming model.
The first half of the season ended on Jan. 5, 2023, and then, there was a one-month break. Then, the fifth episode was released in February 2023.
1923 season 1 ending
At the end of 1923 season 1, it was clear this story wasn’t over. Spencer is on a boat heading for London after killing Arthur in self-defense on the ship back to London. Spencer and Alex agree to meet in the future in Bozeman, Montana. That’s a long way from London!
That’s one of the biggest stories of the season. Elsewhere, we find Teonna recovering from injuries in the fight with the priests that saw Hank killed. She’s still on the run and has not returned to her people.
We also see that Donald has paid the tax for the Dutton family’s land. They have a short amount of time to repay him or he will take over the land. They’re in a tough position, and it’s unclear how they will work their way out of it.
That’s where we expect season 2 will begin! There’s a lot of drama on the way.
Will there be a 1923 season 3?
It sounds like, by most accounts, that 1923 season 2 will be the final season of the series. It looks like the plan was to tell the story over two seasons and 16 episodes. That means 1923 season 3 probably will not happen.
Brandon Sklenar spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the series and confirmed 1923 season 2 is the final season.
“No, it’s bookend. It’s still limited, but I think of it as one piece. There is just a split in the middle, but it is all one piece. It will conclude.”
However, there’s always a chance that could happen! Taylor Sheridan is expanding the Yellowstone Universe as we speak, basically, so there’s a chance it could happen.
