Things seem to be getting more and more complicated for Kevin Costner. On top of rumors circulating about Costner’s somewhat diva behavior surrounding his reported exit from Yellowstone, the actor is in the first stages of a divorce from Christine Baumgartner — one that he apparently did not see coming and is reportedly willing to do anything to save.
“Everyone thought Kevin and his wife were super happy so it’s all surprising,” a source explained to Us Weekly. “He truly loves her and is trying to get her back. He’s been blindsided by this.”
Baumgartner first filed for divorce at the beginning of May, and reportedly, it was Costner’s demanding and distant work schedule for Yellowstone along with his overcommitment to work on Horizon: An American Saga were driving forces behind Baumgartner’s decision to file. There was some speculation about infidelity on top of it all, too. That’s a lot to sort out!
Baumgartner was hoping for her husband to spend some time with her and their children, sons Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 12, at their Santa Barbara home, but his filming schedule made that near impossible. The show’s repeatedly delayed filming schedule also didn’t help too much with the situation, either.
This isn’t the first time a source has come out of the woodwork to confirm that Costner was completely caught off guard by the divorce. Sources also told TMZ the actor was “completely blindsided” by Baumgartner’s divorce filing.
“Kevin was very surprised by Christine’s actions, he obviously doesn’t want the divorce and he would take her back,” a source revealed to Page Six. “It’s disappointing, he loves her and he loves his children.” The source even added, ““I have no idea if Kevin even knows what the reasons are,” in terms of why Baumgartner filed for divorce.
It is unclear whether or not Costner’s departure from Yellowstone was a decision made with Baumgartner in mind — but even if it is a last ditch effort to show Baumgartner that he is prioritizing her, it might be too little, too late. Still, we are wishing everyone involved the best. Sorting through a divorce (especially with kids) is no easy feat!
