Indiana Jones and Star Wars star Harrison Ford details how one brutal scene from the Yellowstone prequel spinoff 1923 scene hit too close to home.
One heart-wrenching 1923 scene hit too close to home for Harrison Ford. From Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, the western-drama spinoff television series centers on Jacob (Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) as they attempt to defend the Yellowstone ranch from various thieves and businessmen who wish to take control and exploit the expansive fertile land. After a violent confrontation with desperate sheep herders leaves several dead, Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) retaliates with a vicious ambush, leaving John Dutton Sr. (James Badge Dale) dead and Jacob fighting for his life. Cara must do whatever she can to nurse Jacob back to health and protect the ranch.
Speaking with People, Ford recalled how one scene in 1923
“When the scripts were coming, I was struck by how many major moments in my character’s life had a substantial and not coincidental shadow of the same things in my life. I watched a rehearsal with a stand-in being brought into the kitchen, and Helen [Mirren] coming in, sweeping everything off the counter, taking command….”
“Even when I talk about it now, it emotionally relates to the airplane crash I had and what my wife went through.”
Harrison Ford Has a Turbulent History With Flying
Beginning in the 1960s, Ford has had a passion for taking to the skies. Due to the hobby’s hefty financial requirement, the Blade Runner
However, Ford also had plenty of scares in his piloting career, making national headlines with several incidents. While learning how to fly a helicopter in 1999, the Bell 206L4 LongRanger under Ford’s control lost power and was forced to make an emergency landing. Strong winds knocked the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny star’s plane off the runway in 2000, and Ford’s 2015 plane crash on a golf course in Venice, CA proved to be the worst of them all. The actor suffered a broken pelvis, broken ankle, broken arm, and head injuries.
Ford’s most recent incident occurred in 2020 when he misheard an air traffic controller’s instruction to wait for an approaching aircraft to land resulting in a near miss from the two planes. Despite his close calls, Ford continues to fly and is involved in various pilot advocacy groups, aviation charities, and youth programs including the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagles program. However, it is unlikely Ford will take his high-flying skills to the set of 1923 as Jacob is completely content with his lifestyle as a rancher in Montana.
